Rackspace Cloud Beta

If you use MySQL on Rackspace Cloud and you want:

  • Simple, out of the box clustering
  • Dynamic database scalability (add/remove nodes on the fly)
  • To eliminate the data partitioning headache of MySQL

Then you should try ScaleDB. This is a beta, so you should not expect a completely finished product, but it is in pretty solid shape.

Determine how many nodes you want in your database and then add 3 nodes (NFS, Cluster Manager and MySQL Proxy optional). For example a 5 node cluster would require 8 Rackspace instances. Cluster Manager is a lightweight service that can run on one of the nodes, reducing the number of instances required, if you prefer.
